About Us
Gloucestershire's largest free one-day festival. Live music, Food Village, Dog Show, street entertainers, dancing, fairground rides, exhibitions, lakeside events and over 100 stands. From fresh local food and produce, lunches and snacks, through to beers, wines, ciders and juice, there's a lot more than just onions! Newent Onion Fayre is a great day out for all the family.
Help celebrate the Silver Jubilee Year of the festival.
In the Streets
For this one day of the year, all the streets of Newent are closed and filled with rides, stalls, live music, street entertainment and refreshments. As you wander through the streets, all your senses will be filled as the sound of live music hits your ears. As well as all the stalls and rides to see, there's plenty of entertainment too! With live music and exhibitions, as well as activities in the park and around the lake there is something for everybody!
The Onion Show
Staged in the Memorial Hall, the show is unique in that all exhibits are only from the Onion Family, or Alliums to give them their correct name. As well as onions, exhibits are invited for blanch leeks, pot leeks, garlic and chives.
Exhibitors from as far afield as the north of England and from Wales have been bringing their exhibits for the last 25 years. There are excellent cash prizes to be won, as well as trophies for the winners of the various classes. There are also classes for children and adults to show off their artistic talents and make an animal out of vegetables - especially onions, of course.
Competitions at the Fayre
The Onion Show is not the only competition at the Fayre. The most famous is, of course. the world famous Onion Eating Competition.
