About Us
Lower Carterspiece Farm Cottages are situated on the edge of the Forest of Dean with panoramic views across open farmland towards the Black mountains and beyond. The original farmhouse is 400 years old and is uniquely situated down a half mile forestry track with no neighbours. Dogs are very welcome, and guests can walk straight from the door for miles, through the forest or across fields to the pub and leave their car where it is! We are right on the Wysis Way.
There are shops, pubs and restaurants just 2 miles away. We are between the River Severn and River Wye in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
There are 3 very different places to stay here, each with their own private hot tub with stunning views, and well equipped for a relaxing and peaceful stay away from it all.
The Granary, converted in 2007, sleeps 2 on a sleeping platform above the living area on the first floor, accessed by the original external steps. It has a west facing balcony with hot tub and amazing views. It is decorated with a Moroccan theme with lots of homely touches.
The Stables, converted in 2013, sleeps up to 4 people, with 2 bedrooms, one ensuite. The second bedroom can be made into a King bed or 2 singles. Cot and highchair available. The hot tub is on the patio next to its own enclosed garden and faces southwest. It has a French gite style feel about it, is all on one level with a few internal steps. A conservatory on the back houses the kitchen dining area with patio doors opening onto the garden. It is a bright and airy space.
The Hut on the Hill, a lockdown project, is a luxurious Shepherds Hut, fully central heated with flushing toilet and hot shower, with outstanding views towards the black mountains. Next to the Hut is a 400-year-old stable, which has been renovated to provide additional space, for drying kit, storing bikes and canoes etc and somewhere to wash up with more space. A place for a wet dog to dry off too. There is also a beer fridge/ freezer and washing machine. The Hut has been designed to encourage guests to escape from it all. No Wi-Fi or TV, just the hot tub, fire pit with marshmallows, and BBQ. There is also room to dine inside on those colder winter months when the hut is a cosy romantic place to relax with just the sound of the wildlife to keep you company.
Guests are treated to homemade bread, eggs from the owners’ hens and freshly baked cakes on arrival. There is also the option to order balloon packages, flowers, birthday cakes, cream teas, or a meal on arrival, to help guests celebrate those special occasions. Details on booking.
We love living at Lower Carterspiece Farm, and enjoy having guests come and share our little piece of heaven.
