Cycling Trails in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley

Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly cycle ride, scenic country lanes, or technical downhill thrills, the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is one of the UK’s best-loved places to get out on two wheels.

We’re home to a wide range of cycling trails, each showcasing the area’s stunning landscapes – from beautiful woodland and riverside paths to quiet lanes, heritage routes and purpose-built tracks. There’s something here for every rider, whatever your pace.

Explore by Trail Type

  • Family & Leisure Trails: Looking for a relaxed ride? Try the Colliers Trail, a 9-mile circular route through the heart of the forest, passing Cannop Ponds, Beechenhurst and Mallards Pike. It’s traffic-free and perfect for all ages. Old Bob’s Trail offers a short, accessible route great for tag-alongs, adaptive bikes and multi-wheel cycles.
  • Mountain Biking & Downhill: The Forest of Dean Cycle Centre is the go-to for mountain biking. You’ll find dedicated skills areas, singletrack routes and some of the best downhill runs this side of the Alps – from beginner-friendly Launchpad to expert-only trails like Ski Run and GBU.
  • Scenic & Riverside Rides: The Peregrine Path is a peaceful route that hugs the River Wye between Monmouth and Symonds Yat East – with plenty of places to stop and enjoy the views. For more traffic-free cycling, the Wye Valley Greenway is a standout: 5 miles from Chepstow to Tintern, including a long disused railway tunnel.
  • On-Road Adventures: Prefer tarmac? Try the Newent Loop – a 28-mile road cycling route taking in quiet country lanes, farmland, and historic villages. Great for road cyclists looking to stretch their legs.

Plan Your Ride

Many trails start or pass through key cycling hubs like the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre, where you’ll find bike hire, refreshments and facilities. There are plenty of spots to take a break – from forest cafés and lakeside picnic areas to pubs and delis just off the trails.
