With miles of scenic trails, ancient woodlands, and a stunning winding river valley, the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is one of the best places in the UK for walking and hiking and its one of the most popular outdoor activities. Whether you're after a gentle woodland stroll, a long-distance hike, or a circular trail with a pub stop along the way, there’s a route for everyone.
If you’re looking for an easy introduction, try our ‘12 Easy Walks’, a collection of short, circular routes through some of the area’s most beautiful locations. For something different, the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail combines art and nature, while the Chepstow Town Trail takes you through the town’s historic streets.
For those wanting a longer walk, the Wye Valley Walk stretches an impressive 136 miles, but shorter sections make for a fantastic day out. Other long-distance trails include the Offa’s Dyke Path, Gloucestershire Way, and Monmouthshire Way, all offering breathtaking scenery and well-marked routes. The Wye Valley Greenway, which opened in 2021, provides a fantastic traffic-free route between Chepstow and Tintern, perfect for walkers and cyclists alike.
With well-maintained paths, varied terrain, and incredible viewpoints, the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is a walker’s paradise. And for those with limited mobility, mobility scooter hire is available at key locations, ensuring that everyone can experience the beauty of the region.
