About Puzzlewood

Enjoy a truly enchanting day out in Puzzlewood. Explore this unique ancient woodland and discover for yourself why Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, describes Puzzlewood as The Most Magical Forest on the Face of the Earth!

A visit to Puzzlewood is like stepping into an enchanted world. A popular film location, you may even recognise Puzzlewood from television series such as Merlin or feature films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Secret Garden (2020).

Ideal for all the family and anyone who loves being outdoors, come prepared for a wonderful walk along a mile and a half of pathways that meander through the trees and rocky ravines. You'll quickly discover why JRR Tolkien, author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, is rumoured to have been inspired by Puzzlewood.

Stunningly beautiful at any time of the year, Puzzlewood looks particularly lovely during the spring when wild garlic covers the woodland floor, followed by a glorious sea of bluebells. With birdsong filling the air, it's an uplifting experience. As well as enjoying Puzzlewood's natural beauty, there are various things to find, such as bridges, lookouts and dead ends. Plus our very own Big Four, a crocodile, alligator, elephant and rhino!

Once you've finished exploring, say hello to our animals. From Highland cattle and donkeys to ducks and chickens, it's a complete menagerie. With a small take away cafe on site or, if you prefer to come prepared with your own picnic. An average visit is approximately 3 hours.

Don't forget to book online and download the free Puzzlewood app, which features an interactive Roman coin treasure hunt. Watch out for our special events that run throughout the year, including Mother's Day, Easter, Father's Day, Halloween and Christmas, when there is extra fun to be had.

Looking for somewhere to stay? Why not stay at Puzzlewood and enjoy exploring the woodland as much as you want and feeding the animals in the morning. Puzzlewood Patch and Puzzlewood Cottage both sleep four, and Puzzlewood House sleeps eight.
