About The Ostrich Inn
Proper 13th century country pub opposite the 'Cathedral of the Forest' in the lovely village of Newland in the Forest of Dean.
The Ostrich is a charming and unspoilt traditional English pub. It is likely that the site of this pub has been occupied since the 13th century when the church known as the 'Cathedral of the Forest' was built, which is where the deceased from the Royal Forest of Dean were brought for their final resting place. The name 'Ostrich' could be a corruption of the medieval name 'hostelry', or from the coat of arms of the local Probyn family. Friendly staff and owners.
Always several real ales available. Wide range of excellent food with some unusual dishes. Lovely beer garden. Limited car parking.
Getting To Us
From Coleford, go straight over the Clock Tower towards Newland. Follow the road down. At T Junction turn right into Newland. As you come into the village of Newland the pub is on the right hand side, with the 'Cathedral of the Forest' on the left.
