The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley covers two countries and three counties - Gloucestershire and Herefordshire in England and Monmouthshire in Wales. Clockwise, our borders are at Caldicot in the south west, via Usk up to Abergavenny in the north west, to Hereford in the north, Ledbury in the north east then following the edges of the Forest of Dean District to Hartpury in the east then down to the River Severn which forms our border to the south and finally along to Chepstow and the mouth of the River Wye.

While there’s plenty to see and do within the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley, it’s also a perfect base for exploring nearby areas. From the rolling hills of The Cotswolds to the rugged mountains of the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog), you’ll find a wide range of places to visit.

Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog)

Located just to the west, the Brecon Beacons National Park offers dramatic landscapes of mountains, waterfalls, and valleys. Hike to the top of Pen y Fan, explore hidden waterfalls, or visit charming towns like Brecon and Crickhowell. The easterly Black Mountains stretch close to our area too, providing fantastic opportunities for walking, wildlife spotting, and scenic drives.
