About Gloucester Cathedral

Gloucester Cathedral - A Place for Everyone

A warm welcome awaits you at Gloucester Cathedral. Proudly sitting at the very heart of the City of Gloucester is one of the finest medieval buildings in the country where visitors can explore 1000 years of history and architecture including the extraordinary fan-vaulted medieval Cloisters and the Great East Window, both of which are national treasures. Be sure to visit the beautifully restored Lady Chapel or hear the Cathedral’s story in our interactive exhibition in the Tribune Gallery

Take your pick from a wide range of tours, all led by expert guides. Climb 269 steps to the top of the tower, descend into the atmospheric crypt or discover the depth and breadth of the Cathedral’s amazing history, or you may just want to wander around and soak up the atmosphere and beauty of this stunning building at your own pace. Catering to all tastes, we have a diverse selection of workshops, concerts, events, exhibitions and more taking place year-round.

Families and children of all ages can look forward to the perfect day out, with plenty of space both indoors and outside for younger visitors to let off steam. Take part in family activities, try out the Whispering Gallery, follow a family trail or download our free interactive app to explore the building through different Cathedral characters - discover where Happy Potter was filmed, see back in time with amazing Augmented Reality and unlock secret stories. Enjoy fun and discovery, any time of year and whatever the weather.

While you’re here don’t forget to visit the Monk’s Kitchen eatery to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere and a delicious snack. Situated just off the west walk of the Cloisters, you will find a selection of beverages, cakes, hot soup, homemade quiches and sandwiches to enjoy.

If you are looking to pick up a souvenir of your visit, head to the Cathedral Gift Shop located at the back of the Nave and open daily. Inside you'll find an extensive selection of greetings cards, locally sourced produce, candles, jewellery, artwork and more. Music fans can also pick up a CD of music sung by the Cathedral Choir.

Gloucester Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1,300 years, and our faith continues to be at the very heart of all that we do. Services take place daily with music playing an integral part, and whether you are a life-long Christian, taking the first steps of your journey with faith or are simply curious about what a service involves, you are warmly invited to attend. You are also invited to come inside the Cathedral to pray, reflect and light a candle – this space is for you, and you are welcome here.

Whatever your reason for visiting, we look forward to seeing you soon.

Getting to us

There are eight disabled parking spaces which are for use by Blue Badge holders on a first come first served basis.

However, there are several public car parks within easy walking distance of the Cathedral.

The Cathedral is located in the centre of town, so the best way to get here is by public transport.

We are a 10-15 minute walk from both the train and bus stations.

You can also use Gloucester’s Park and Ride.
