About Traditional Charcoal Burn

Our Traditional Charcoal Burn is back again for the Early May Bank Holiday!

The Dean Heritage Centre is one of the only places in the country to make charcoal using the traditional turf-and-earth kiln method. We will be open every day over the bank holiday weekend from 10:00-17:00 for you to see the charcoal burn and speak to the team of dedicated volunteers manning the burn.

The stack will be built Saturday morning, and the charcoal will be harvested midday Monday. The charcoal will then be sold in the shop in the following weeks.
