About Backstage in the Gage - 1926 Miners' Strike

We are marking the centenary of 1926 by focusing on the impact in the Forest of Dean. In 1926, a miners’ strike sparked a general strike in May for 9 days. Although this failed, miners in the Forest of Dean continued to strike until November, fighting for better pay and working conditions. Find out about the effects of the strike from real-life experiences drawn from our archive.

Come to the Collections room to get a glimpse behind the scenes, see objects that are not on display and chat with our staff and dedicated volunteers. A great opportunity to get close to history and discover some of the many wonderful stories in our collection.
