Inside the Abbey there will be a night-time carol service, an atmospheric evening where the historic setting brings an extra sense of occasion.

Why it’s worth going
There’s something quite special about gathering in the ruins of Tintern Abbey at dusk, walking in the torchlit procession, then settling in for carols inside stone walls that date back centuries. The setting is deeply atmospheric without being over-the top and works well for a family evening out, or a quiet starter for the Christmas season.
Tips for your visit
Arrive a little before 5 pm at The Anchor Inn to ensure you’re ready for the procession.
Dress warmly, the Abbey is open to the elements and it could be chilly.
A torch or lantern (if allowed) or wearing something visible is helpful for the outdoor procession.
Children: under 16s free entry, a good chance for a family outing.
LED flicker sticks add fun for kids (and adults) and help with visibility in the dusk.
After the carol service, you may wish to grab a hot drink or bite in Tintern village, check opening times ahead.
If you’re coming via public transport, the nearest station is Chepstow railway station (5.5 miles away) with onward bus or taxi.
Looking ahead
Specific details for the 2025 service are “to be confirmed” on the original listing, so it’s worth checking the organiser’s site for any updates.
