The Friends of Gloucester Cathedral are a community dedicated to supporting the Cathedral and preserving its rich heritage for future generations. Sharon’s talk, “The Long Man”: How Edward Jenner and Others Contributed to Modern Science, explores the fascinating stories of John Hunter, the father of modern surgery, Edward Jenner, the father of modern medicine, and a mysterious character known as the Long Man — and how their lives and discoveries connect.

Sharon recently retired after 45 years in the NHS, where she practised and lectured in Diagnostic Cardiac Imaging, bringing a wealth of experience to this intriguing exploration of medical history and scientific discovery.

This event is open to both Friends of Gloucester Cathedral and non-members.
