Highlights Along the Trail
Riverside Start
Begin your stroll at Wilton Road Car Park and enjoy the peaceful riverside path that curves gently with the flow of the Wye. Keep an eye out for swans, ducks and riverside wildlife as you follow the bank toward the town.
The Bandstand & Rowing Club
Pass by Ross’s historic bandstand and the town’s active rowing club – a popular spot for Sunday concerts in summer and a brilliant photo opportunity all year round.
The Market House
Climb slightly uphill to the heart of town and discover the 17th-century sandstone Market House, now home to a local arts and crafts centre. The area around here is great for a coffee stop or a browse through Ross’s independent shops and delis.
St Mary’s Church & The Prospect
Make your way to St Mary the Virgin Church, whose spire is visible for miles. Just behind it lies The Prospect – a peaceful garden created in 1696 with stunning views over the Wye Valley and to the Black Mountains beyond.
Return to the River
Head back down through the town’s quiet streets to complete the loop. Fancy extending your walk? Add on a stretch along the Riverside Arboretum or pick up the longer Ross Heritage Trail.
Good to Know
Public toilets and cafés are available in the town centre. This walk is dog-friendly, but dogs should be kept on leads near roads and wildlife.
