About Us

Hotel Accommodation In The Centre Of Abergavenny

The Angel Hotel is graded as a 4 Silver Star property by The AA and was named as their Hotel of The Year, Wales 2016/17.

Set on the edge of the Brecon Beacons in Wales, this former coaching inn with a smart Georgian facade and 35 guest rooms is the heart of the historic market town of Abergavenny. The majority of rooms are within the hotel however The Mews, a former stables, is adjacent to the hotel and the hotel's 4 serviced cottages are in very close proximity to the hotel.

All rooms are en-suite with a sleek and contemporary design and consist of a desk for the business traveller, pocket-sprung mattress, flat-screen television (with Freeview and radio), telephone, tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryer, extra fluffy towels and robes, silky Percale linens, Aromatherapy Associates bathroom amenities and towel warmers.

Dining

  • Enjoy an informal breakfast, lunch or evening meal in our Oak Room or Foxhunter Bar. We offer £30.00 for 3 courses or choice from our à la carte menu.
  • The Wedgewood room is open for afternoon teas.
  • Late breakfast, morning coffee and snacks are served in The Foxhunter Bar. We also offer an All Day Menu.
  • The Walnut Tree, (our sister property) is a Michelin-starred restaurant just 10 minutes drive away.

Award Winning Afternoon Tea

The Angel Hotel is a member of the prestigious UK Tea Guild having previously held an 'Award of Excellence' since 2008. Only nine hotels outside of London have achieved this. In 2011 The Angel Hotel were proud recipients of The Tea Guild's top national award, the Oscar of the tea world.

Each morning our specialist baker, Sally Lane freshly prepares the sandwiches, savouries, cakes and scones ready for the afternoon. We serve High tea daily in our Wedgewood room from 2.00pm - 4.00pm; Monday - Friday and 2.00pm - 5.30pm; Saturday & Sunday.  Whilst High Tea (£30.00 per person) is served every day, Afternoon Tea (£25.00 per person) is only served Monday - Friday.

Abergavenny

The historic market town of Abergavenny is a great base for your next break. Getting here is simple, with easy access from the motorway network and a train station in town.

On the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Abergavenny is surrounded by mountains yet only 45 minutes from the capital city of Cardiff. Discover some of the best beaches in Wales or explore the hidden delights of Mid Wales on day trips.

Whether taking a break with the family or planning a romantic getaway, The Angel Hotel's Special Offers provide exceptional value. They are updated regularly and often include seasonal suggestions, early booking discounts and late availability offers.

Road Directions

South of the town, the A4042 from Cardiff meets the A465 from the North and the A40 from the West. Coming into Abergavenny the main road turns right in front of the Angel. You can turn left by the side of the Hotel. At the top of the narrow lane go right and the car park entrance is immediately on the right.

The hotel car park is at the rear of the hotel. If full, use the very reasonably priced large public car park opposite (No charges apply here after 5pm or on Sunday's).

The A40 is our main approach road. Motorway standard, it links with the North-South dual-carriageway, 10 miles East. from the Midlands via Ross-on-Wye on the M50, or from London and the East, via the Severn bridges, on the M4 (junction 24).

It is a one hour drive from Cardiff and Bristol airports, 90mins. from Birmingham airport, and 2 hrs. 20mins. from Heathrow.

Public Transport Directions

There is a mainline railway station, just South of the town, coming from London and Cardiff via Newport, and the North via Hereford. The railway station is a 10 - 15 minute walk from the hotel.
