Newent Celebrates Civil War Battle

On the school playing fields within sight of Commonfields, where in the original troops were garrisoned, will be the highlight of the weekend’s activities, the battle for Newent, fought out with pike musket and cannon.

Throughout the day, the Sealed Knot will be demonstrating day to day life during the Civil War era in their period village. Visitors will be able to get up close to the weapons of the period and learn about how they were used. Find out if you have what it takes to be a 17th Century militiaman, visitors will be able to take part in drills and training. There will be skirmishes and fighting between the opposing forces which will culminate in the final battle for Newent in the afternoon. Cannon will once again fire towards the St Mary’s Church spire!
