About Forest of Dean Ultra Marathon (55km)

The Forest of Dean Ultra Marathon is a demanding 55km trail running event that takes runners deep into the woodland trails, hills and valleys of the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley.

Designed for experienced endurance runners, the route explores a wide range of forest terrain, combining long woodland tracks, technical trails and steady climbs. The course showcases the varied landscape that makes the Forest of Dean such a popular destination for trail running.

Starting within the forest, runners follow a carefully planned route that loops through some of the area’s most scenic and challenging sections. Expect a mix of wide forest paths, smaller trails and elevation that keeps the race engaging from start to finish.

The Route

At 55km, this ultra marathon is designed to test endurance, pacing and trail running experience. The route includes:

- Rolling forest tracks and single-track trails

- Woodland climbs and fast descents

- Remote sections deep within the forest

- Changing terrain that requires good trail awareness

The varied terrain means runners should be well prepared with suitable trail shoes and experience running longer distances off-road.

Who it’s for

The Forest of Dean Ultra Marathon is aimed at experienced trail runners and ultra-distance athletes looking for a serious challenge in a beautiful but demanding landscape.

Whether you’re aiming for a personal best or simply completing your first ultra distance, the course offers a memorable way to explore the forest on foot.
