About Backstage in the Gage - Oral Histories

Our oral history collection consists of around 200 recordings of people from the Forest of Dean being interviewed about their lives. Their stories reveal fascinating insights into life in the Dean 50 to 100 years ago. They are unique personal experiences and memories of people, which really bring history to life and allow us to connect with people’s lives. We will be playing a selection of excerpts which you are guaranteed to find captivating!

All our Backstage in the Gage sessions are at 2 pm, every 3rd Wednesday of the month in the Collections Room. Half an hour to an hour informal talk and discussion.

Come to the Collections room to get a glimpse behind the scenes, see objects that are not on display and chat with our staff and dedicated volunteers. A great opportunity to get close to history and discover some of the many wonderful stories in our collection.
