About Wye Valley Sculpture Garden
The Wye Valley Sculpture Garden hosts one of Wales’ largest outdoor summer sculpture exhibitions and is a leading cultural destination in the Wye Valley, close to Tintern and the iconic Tintern Abbey. Founded by artist Gemma Kate Wood, the garden has evolved over the past 20 years into a living landscape where contemporary art, nature, and wellbeing meet.
Set within three acres of formal lawns, herbaceous borders, orchard, and a pond, the garden provides a carefully designed setting for large-scale and site-responsive sculpture. Each summer, the exhibition presents a changing collection of contemporary work in glass, stone, metal, bronze, ceramic, and wood, bringing together established and emerging artists in a unique outdoor environment.
The Wye Valley has long attracted artists, writers, and poets inspired by its dramatic landscape. The Sculpture Garden continues this tradition, offering a space where contemporary art is experienced within nature, and where visitors are invited to slow down, explore, and reconnect with their surroundings.
Our guiding ethos balances art, plants, wildlife, and wellbeing, creating a space that supports both artistic practice and personal reflection. Homemade refreshments are served during opening hours, and on most Sunday afternoons visitors are accompanied by live acoustic guitar music, adding a gentle soundscape to the experience.
The garden is open during the summer season from June to mid-September on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons from 2.00pm to 5.00pm (including bank holidays). Seasonal highlights also include our much-loved Snowdrop Open Days in February, when the lawns are transformed into sweeping drifts of white.
In addition to public opening, the garden welcomes pre-booked group visits, including educational groups, home education families, community organisations, photography clubs, and creative workshops. These sessions make use of the 3-acre landscape as an immersive outdoor setting for learning, creativity, and exploration. Special pricing is available for group and educational visits, with full details published on our website. The garden provides a distinctive venue for structured visits, offering opportunities for art, photography, and nature-based engagement in a calm and inspiring environment.
