The Speech House Hotel

The Speech House Hotel is a former 17th-century hunting lodge set in the heart of the idyllic Royal Forest of Dean. Nestled in the centre of a tranquil forest environment, The Speech House Hotel is a family run business, and offers the perfect combination of original charm, modern hotel, and wedding venue facilities.

The hotel has 35 comfortable en-suite bedrooms, several with impressive antique master four-poster beds. For dining, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Relax in the informal Orangery and enjoy a tasty lunch, traditional Afternoon Tea or light supper. Or visit Verderers’, our AA Rosette à la carte restaurant, and indulge in a fine dining experience, under the creative guidance of our Head Chef Lewis Cooper.

Step outside and take in the breathtaking surrounding scenery – ideal for exploring with the dog, finding a pretty picnic spot or challenging yourself to more adventurous activities. Whether you’re visiting for dinner, staying for a few days or filling the hotel with friends and family attending your wedding, a warm welcome from friendly staff always awaits.

The Edwin Tauber Suite is a modern function space, suitable for conferences, weddings and parties, with a capacity of up to 200 people.

The Orangery Restaurant

Open 7 days a week, and is dog friendly.

The Orangery has a delicious range of options. In the mornings we offer a selections of teas, coffees and homemade cakes. If you’re looking for something a bit more substantial, we offer a selection of freshly cooked, locally sourced dishes through to light bites such as flatbreads and salads, from 12pm – 3pm daily. The Kitchen takes a break between 5pm-6pm however we do offer cakes and cream teas during this time. In the evenings between 6pm-9pm we offer a dinner menu which showcases A La Carte dishes from local suppliers, as well as the trusty favourites, and specials prepared by our skilled kitchen team.

We offer an elegant Afternoon Tea between 3pm-5pm (4-6pm on Sundays) which boasts a selection of finger sandwiches, seasonal indulgent treats, and freshly baked scones and jam. Served with speciality teas and coffee on fine-bone china and silver.

The Orangery is both children and dog friendly. We offer a special Children’s menu, and have high-chairs available on request.

If you have special dietary requirements these can be catered for and we have a speciality Vegan & Vegetarian menu available, with Vegan wines to pair with your meal should you wish. Please let your server know when you arrive, and they will be able to look after your requests.

The Verderers' Court

Verderers’ is another restaurant within The Speech House – from an intimate meal for two through to a private function for up to 50 people. Perfect if you’re looking for a more formal dining setting with a modern twist. The historic beamed Verderer’s Court restaurant reflects the room’s continuing use as a courthouse for the Forest of Dean Verderers.
