The Belfry Hotel, formerly known as The George, has stood proudly in the heart of Littledean for more than two centuries. Once a lively meeting place for local miners finishing their shifts in the early hours, this historic coaching inn was deeply woven into the industrial heritage of the Forest of Dean.

When the Bell family purchased the property in 1992, they set out to restore and revive it  - transforming the much-loved village inn into the welcoming country hotel it is today. Their vision was simple: to preserve its character and history while creating a warm, modern space where everyone feels at home.

Today, The Belfry offers a relaxed blend of traditional charm and contemporary comfort. With its inviting restaurant and bar, stylish function suite, and comfortable en-suite bedrooms, it remains a place where people come together - to eat, to stay, to celebrate, and to reconnect.

The Restaurant & Bar

At the heart of The Belfry is our restaurant and bar -  a friendly, relaxed space where great food and local hospitality take centre stage.

Our menu celebrates fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from across Gloucestershire and the Wye Valley. Enjoy hearty breakfasts, light lunches, or a beautifully cooked evening meal.

Sundays are something special at The Belfry, with our traditional Sunday Carvery served alongside all the trimmings  - a true Forest favourite.

The bar is well stocked with local ales, fine wines, and spirits, making it the perfect spot to unwind by the fire or enjoy a drink in the garden on a summer’s afternoon.

We’re proud to cater for all dietary requirements and offer dedicated vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

The Belfry Hotel offers 32 comfortable, thoughtfully designed en-suite bedrooms, each blending classic charm with modern comfort to create a peaceful retreat after a day exploring the Forest.

The Skittle Alley

True to its roots as a community hub, The Belfry still celebrates one of the Forest’s favourite pastimes  - skittles. Our traditional skittle alley has been a lively part of the hotel for decades, hosting local leagues, family gatherings, and friendly competitions.

It’s a nostalgic nod to the inn’s social history, offering guests and locals alike a fun and relaxed space to enjoy an evening together. The skittle alley can also be booked for private parties and team events, with catering and bar service available.

The Function Suite

Our modern Function Suite offers an elegant, flexible space ideal for weddings, private celebrations, and corporate events.

With capacity for up to 80 seated guests, the suite features natural light, a private bar, and direct garden access. From intimate gatherings to larger occasions, our experienced team will help tailor every detail.
