About Us
As a certified (ANFT) guide, Carina offers a structured, gentle, 4 hour inclusive woodland wonder (keeping close to a base under the trees). She provides an essential ‘tool kit’ based on the Japanese practice of Shinrin – Yoku, ‘bathing’ all the senses in the Forest atmosphere whilst walking slowly between the trees and on gently undulating woodland tracks.
Following a brief introduction to the scientific research basis and the origins of Forest Bathing, Carina guides a small group (under 8), so that participants can relax under the peaceful Forest canopy, choosing optional, short, sensory invitations amongst the trees, wondering off alone or together with a partner, whilst Carina keeps an eye. Invitations are offered, based on individual participant responses, and all are optional.
This sensory rather than intellectual practice can recalibrate the body like a relaxing bath, restoring the brain from the sustained directed attention of everyday life. There are many moments for stillness and reflection. Mobiles are silenced or left behind and Carina keeps the time. The relational experience is between the participant and the Forest. It is unique to each individual and can be shared amongst the group or kept private.
Research based Forest Bathing can lower blood pressure, improve mood and sleep, re vitalise, aid symptoms of depression and anxiety, boost the immune system, improve heart rate variability, cognitive functions, and empathy.
At the end of the course healthy snacks and foraged tea are served under the tree canopy, after which time Carina will direct those who wish to wonder off further into the surrounding blue bell woods for snoozing or pic – nicking or more walking.
