About Us
There’s a fabulous opportunity for art lovers to explore in depth, and up close, the beautiful and dramatic landscapes painted by Britain’s most famous landscape artist, John Constable, in his later years.
‘Constable: Capturing Light and Air’ is an afternoon online lecture coming up in June arranged by MonLife Heritage Museums – but it’s accessible to anyone in the UK, and beyond, via Zoom. Popular local art history lecturer, Eleanor Bird, will take a close look at Constable’s later work and show how his art became freer and more emotional over his life as he worked to realise his idea that: “Painting is but another word for feeling”.
John Constable was so much more than a painter of familiar chocolate-box scenes. Constable’s landscapes capture the fleeting atmosphere and light of the British countryside, from his tiny sketchbooks to his famous 'Six-footers'. The lecture will also whet the appetite for the Royal Academy’s upcoming exhibition, Late Constable, the first major exhibition of his work there, and the first to focus on his late career, which is due to open in London this autumn.
There are two chances to catch this lecture, which will be delivered live on both days via Zoom. Choose from Saturday 12th June, 2-4pm, or Monday 14th June, 2-4pm. Booking is essential and places need to be booked by 4pm at the latest on the day before the lecture at www.visitmonmouthshire.com/constable
