About Us
Art in Penallt organises an annual art exhibition of high quality, contemporary work in the village of Penallt. The organising team are all local volunteers who have, since 2010, developed a close association with local schools, Made in Monmouthshire, the Inn at Penallt and Creates Gallery. The purpose is to stimulate interest and enthusiasm amongst all age groups in the artistic process of creating a broad range of art and craft forms and to sell a wide variety of high-quality artwork with any profit donated to charity.
Artists, makers and visitors from far afield now recognise Art in Penallt which each year attracts new exhibitors and demonstrators as well as established favourites like our patrons, the potter Walter Keeler and the artist Richard Wills. Curator Ann Bradley and her team are hard at work from January onwards, developing each year’s fine art show. Selecting exhibitors from many applicants is never an easy task and to ensure that the show brings in exciting new artists, exhibitors are not normally selected for more than two consecutive years which can make for tough choices.
After some years in the heart of the village, in 2019 Art in Penallt moved to Humble by Nature on the edge of Penallt. Here, Kate Humble and Ludo Graham have established a thriving rural skills centre on a working farm with excellent facilities for events such as this.
At the heart of Humble by Nature is a beautiful, old barn which will house the fine art exhibition for three days while on Saturday & Sunday only, a range of stalls and demonstrations by artists and makers will be found in nearby marquees and gazebos.
