ALBRECHT DÜRER: SIXTEENTH CENTURY SUPERSTAR
Afternoon online Lecture via Zoom With popular art history lecturer Eleanor Bird for MonLife Heritage Museums
Choose from Monday 10 May, 2-4pm OR Saturday 15 May 2-4pm
For all lovers of art and art history Monmouthshire Museums have organised some special sessions for the summer ahead. Working with popular local art history lecturer Eleanor Bird, there will be one-off afternoon 2- hour lectures from 2-4pm online via Zoom, and there will be 2 opportunities to attend each subject, on a weekday (Monday) and weekend (Saturday) afternoon, both live lectures.
For the first subject in May the focus is on Albrecht Dürer, Sixteenth Century Superstar. Explore the work of the extraordinary German painter and printmaker, who was famous in all the courts of Europe by 1520 and was one of the first artistic superstars of the Renaissance. Look at the fascinating detail in Dürer's biblical and mythological prints and how they influenced both Northern artists and Italian and examine his richly-coloured paintings and iconic self-portraits and see how he brought Italian Renaissance ideas to the North. This talk - on Monday 10 May or Saturday 15 May 2-4pm - will also whet the appetite for the National Gallery's long-awaited 2021 exhibition now scheduled for the autumn in London, Dürer’s Journeys.
The sessions are open to anyone around the UK, and beyond, to join and spend a few hours discovering Dürer and how he and his art reflected the new self-confidence of his time. Bookings are all online at www.visitmonmouthshire.com/durer
