About Us
Usk or “Town of Flowers” as it is also known, is one of those hidden gems in the county of Monmouthshire. An old Roman town, it sits on one of the finest salmon fishing rivers in the country, the River Usk. It’s 11th century castle is the backdrop for an enchanting, romantic garden and as the oldest town in Wales (circa 55 AD) has a wealth of history from Owain Glyndŵr to Alfred Russell Wallace - Usk's Rival to Charles Darwin.
From the floral beauty of the town and its bulging hanging baskets, Usk also offers the opportunity for visitors to relax in a friendly environment and enjoy the many attractions and things to do such as; cycling routes, riverside walks, wedding venues, fishing, flying, picnic areas, dining, agricultural museum, historic buildings such as the “Sessions House” where both the Mather Jackson Library and the old “ Victorian Court Room” are located.
Usks’ charm also lies in its range of small independent shops, salons, tearooms, bistros, cafes, historic pubs, hotels, caravan and camping amenities, B&B and fine dining venues. With free parking, well-kept public toilets, child friendly play areas it makes for a perfect day out or a holiday. With its convenient location and less than 10 miles from the M4 yet feeling a whole world away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, it is a town that everyone should visit.
And last but not least, Usk has been a regular winner of ‘Wales in Bloom’ (37 years in a row) and recently was the Winner of Communities in Bloom (World) Small International Category 2018. Usk is truly a celebration of horticulture, of neighbourliness and friendliness. But it’s not just in spring and summer that the town shines when they throw open their gardens to the general public and host a spectacular agricultural show. Every Winter the town hosts a fantastic winter Festival, with music, markets, reindeer and, of course, Father Christmas!
